First Impressions
After checking in at the Service Desk inside the cruise terminal Portside Cafe, we made our way over to board the boat named “Port Venture”. It’s a large and spacious boat, an 18.5m catamaran with multiple viewing decks. There was never any concern that we wouldn’t be able to get a great vantage point during our Dolphin Cruise. Boarding was a breeze and we wouldn’t hesitate bringing smaller kids or others with mobility concerns on board as there is a strong emphasis on ensuring anyone who wants to get on board can do so without any stress.
The Offering
An emphasis on the local marine life with warm and knowledgeable staff offering Dolphin watching cruises year round and Whale cruises in the months they’re present in the area, between May and November. Beyond these, there’s also a sunset cruise (where you can BYO drinks and nibbles), a Jervis Bay highlights cruise to take in some of the amazing beaches of the region, and boom netting cruises in the summer where you can hop safely into the water in the net off the back of the boat as it cruises along. If you wish, private charters can also be arranged.
You’ll Drive Back For
The incredible marine life! We saw no less than 12 dolphins across our 1.5 hour cruise and were even lucky enough to see them playing up close, swimming along near the boat and frequently popping out of the water. Combine this with some of the most spectacular beach scenery in the world and you have all the makings of a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Staff were incredibly helpful and knowledgeable and we were thrilled to learn that this isn’t a matter of coming at a very specific time but in fact dolphins are present year-round in the area.
