Eating & Drinking

Camp Elim has everything you need to self-cater, with a spacious Camp Kitchen featuring gas cooktops, microwaves, sinks, fridges, and a large covered dining area. A communal BBQ space sits lakeside, perfect for cooking while watching the sun go down over the water.

There’s excellent eating and drinking options in nearby Forster (15 min drive from Camp Elim):

Beach Bums Cafe is positioned right on Main Beach. It offers sea views and relaxed dining with great coffee. Locals can be seen there getting a morning brew and a toastie.

The famous and award-winning Forster Bakehouse is an absolute must whilst you’re in town. Boasting the best pies in the region, make sure you get there early to avoid missing out on the full range of options.

For a more elevated dinner, Spice Monkey is an Asian fusion eatery with a heavy Japanese influence. It’s spacious and has lakeside views, with both indoor and outdoor dining options. Their kid-friendly menu makes perfect for families looking for something a little different.

Finally, no trip to Forster-Tuncurry is fully ticked off until you’ve tasted the local Sydney Rock Oysters. We take comfort in the fact that here you’ll get them as fresh as anywhere. We sampled from Graham Barclays Oysters at the Wallis Lake Fisherman Co-Op.

To Do List

At Camp Elim there’s plenty to do, allowing you to relax and reconnect. Highlights include; canoeing, Stand-up paddle boarding, archery, table tennis and basketball.

Outside the campsite the way to explore this region is to get amongst the natural beauty of it by hiking, swimming or boat:

Booti Booti National Park surrounds Camp Elim, offering bushwalking, wildlife spotting and the serene Seven-Mile Beach.

The Bicentennial Walk showcases the best of the Forster coastline and is an easy, pram-friendly 4km (each way) trail that is suitable for all fitness levels.

Along the walk you might wish to hop in for a dip at The Tanks, a natural swimming hole. Most of the swimming area is sheltered by natural rock formations, making it a calm and safe spot for a dip. Kids especially love watching the waves crash dramatically over the rocks.

Whale watching: From May to November, keep your eyes on the horizon. This stretch of coast is prime for spotting whales on their annual migration. For a closer look, several local operators run whale watching cruises during the season.

Boat Hire: Hire a runabout, BBQ pontoon or see-through kayak from Little Street in Forster and explore Wallis Lake at your own pace.
