For coffee, we always start the day at Evergreen Café. They get the balance just right — strong coffee, friendly faces and a menu that makes it hard to leave. The outdoor tables caught the morning sun, and the kids loved the smoothies while we lingered over a second flat white.
By lunchtime, we find ourselves choosing between two favourites.Tartt. Café is great when you want something modern and relaxed — their burgers and salads are excellent, and there’s a nice buzz about the place without feeling crowded. The other great choice is Palms Artisan Bakery who coin themselves ‘the bread people’. The coffee and pastries are sensational too if you’re after an afternoon treat or something to take away.
For a more elevated dinner, Spice Monkey is an Asian fusion eatery with a heavy Japanese influence. It’s spacious and has lakeside views, with both indoor and outdoor dining options. Their kid-friendly menu makes perfect for families looking for something a little different.
If you're craving something with a bit of a kick, Si Señorita nearby brings coastal Mexican energy to Forster. Think fresh tacos, zesty margaritas and bright flavours in a lively setting.
Back at the park, it’s easy to cook up your own feast. The Camp Kitchen is well equipped with BBQs, plenty of prep space and undercover seating — perfect for family dinners with a view of the lake.
You don’t have to wander far for things to do here. With Wallis Lake on your doorstep, it’s easy to spend hours swimming, fishing, or paddling across the calm water. Kayaks and SUPs are available for hire, and there’s a jetty for those who prefer a more relaxed approach to lake life. At the Park, kids will love the swimming pool and playground, and there’s plenty of grassy space for a game of cricket or a lazy picnic under the trees.
A short drive south brings you to Booti Booti National Park, where lush rainforest walks give way to pristine beaches and lookout points that stretch for miles. The Seven Mile Beach walk is our pick. It’s an easy trail with incredible views and often just the sound of waves and birds for company.
Of course, no trip to Forster is complete without a few hours at Forster Main Beach. It’s patrolled during summer, great for swimming or learning to surf, and there’s a rock pool at one end that’s perfect for younger kids.
From May through November, the coastline becomes prime whale-watching territory. Head to Bennetts Head Lookout (10 minutes’ drive from the park) and you’ll often spot humpbacks cruising close to shore — it’s one of the best free experiences in the region.
Pets are not allowed at this Park.
