The Mill, Castlemaine

A "Makers' Community" of artisan bars, restaurants, produce stores and shops located in the old Castlemaine Woollen Mill.

First Impressions
We had heard about the wide range of venues at this concept venue, a shared space for restaurants and shops located in the old Castlemaine Woollen Mill, so we immediately sought out a map to get our bearings and decide which places we wanted to visit first. Whilst the venue is large, it’s incredibly easy to get around and encountering a friendly team member from Shedshaker Brewery on our walk we share a laugh and quick chat about his recommendations of where to visit while we’re here.

The Offering
Describing itself as a “Makers’ Community”, The Mill is divided into four precincts. The “Food Precinct” is home to a cafe and coffee roastery, a shared winemaker space, a sourdough baker, a craft brewery, a smallgoods maker, a cheese and dairy producer, a chocolatier and ice cream maker. The “Artisan Precinct” is home to furniture makers, clothing artisans, natural bath products and a beautiful florist. The “Vintage Precinct” is Castlemaine Vintage Bazaar, an expansive collection of trinkets and vintage goods separated into marketplace style stores. The “Wellness Precinct” is home to a pilates studio and strength training studio. It’s a choose-your-own-adventure type of venue, and you’ll no doubt spend far longer in your new found favourites than you originally thought you would. We highly recommend doing some research and planning ahead. Our favourites? Boomtown Wine, Long Paddock Cheese and the Castlemaine Vintage Bazaar. That said, there’s something for everyone here and we recommend learning more about the tenants and planning your visit by clicking here.
